Council on starting grid for a new go kart track
Lewis Dean and councillors
Our plans to build a go kart track in the district took their first steps to becoming reality this week after we met with local go karting wonderkid Lewis Dean.
Council officials met with Lewis and his mum Lauren to discuss the possibility of building a new go karting track in the area.
Lewis, from Creswell competes in the UK Kart Series, travelling the length and breadth of the country racing and he has thrown his support behind the proposal.
The construction of a new go kart track was included in our Vision Bolsover District Part Two document as an ambition and we see it having many benefits for the area including:
* Nurturing local talent and providing a base for this talent to practice
* Bringing a national competitive motor sport to the area
* Providing a recreational sport for residents and visitors to take part in
* Creating employment opportunities for local people
* Creating skills and training opportunities for local people

Street cleaning boost for the district
Street sweeper
We are continuing with our drive to keep the area clean and tidy after we agreed to purchase a new, large goods vehicle sweeper.
The new vehicle from Scarab will help increase sweeping standards on classified carriageways and reduce demand on our smaller compact sweepers, meaning they can spend more time on estate areas and meet the increased demand from new housing developments.
Improved sweeping arrangements will help us reduce the amount of litter and debris and tackle weed growth and silting of the highway drainage system, mitigating the risk of excessive standing water from heavy rainfall.

Pinxton honours its residents
Group of people in Pinxton village hall
We all know someone in our towns or villages that has gone above and beyond, been involved in a local group or helped their local community for many years.
And, Pinxton is no different.
But the Parish Council decided to celebrate and recognise some of their residents by bestowing the Freedom of the Parish upon them for the work they have undertaken in and around village.
Bolsover TV went down to the awards ceremony to find out more.

Help us find who dumped this?
Fly tipped bags of asbestos
We have had eight builders bags of asbestos dumped in our countryside this week and we need your help in identifying who could have done this!
There were five bags in Batley Lane, Pleasley and three bags at Hawking Lane in Stainsby.
This is illegal, hazardous, dangerous and will cost us money to dispose of correctly and safely.
If you know or have information on who may have dumped this, please contact us on 01246 242424 or email
us with the information.

Bolsover Drama group promotional image for 'The Game's Afoot' shows an image of Sherlock Holmes smoking a pipe
*9 to 11 May*
*The Assembly Rooms, Bolsover*
It is December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry.
But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears.
