Understanding standards for social housing
Newly installed kitchen
On 1 April, 2024 the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) launched revised standards for social housing.
The aim is to protect social housing tenants and improve the services they receive. They are tougher than previous standards and empower tenants to hold their landlords to account.
Those new standards are:
* Safety and quality - good and safe homes
* Transparency, influence and accountability - good relationships with tenants
* Neighbourhood and community - safe and well-kept neighbourhoods
* Tenancy - renting homes to tenants

Right to Buy allows most council tenants to buy their own council home at a discount.
You can get a discount on the market value of your home when you buy it if you qualify for Right to Buy.
The discount is based on how long you have been a tenant, the type of property you're buying and the value of your home.
