Bolsover Community Woodlands Update
John Ramsey
Our community woodlands project has been on hold recently while we recruited a new project officer.
John Ramsey has been in post since May and is now ready to get stuck into the project. He plans to spend the coming weeks talking to local communities to find out how you engage with open spaces and woodlands and how he can work with you to improve the local environment further.

Lark Rise Woods
Lark rise volunteers June 2023
We started work on Lark Rise Woods, a new community woodland for Creswell, in 2021. The first of a million trees we pledged to plant was put in the ground on that very site.
This is a large scale project that will lead the way for further projects in the area and across the country.
The design includes places for children to play and learn, space for family leisure activities and potential opportunities to provide products that stimulate the local economy.
We are working with partners Bolsover Woodland Enterprise who have planted more than 19,000 trees so far over the last couple of tree planting seasons. There has also been a wide range of volunteers who have helped to plant trees on the site.

Community Orchards
Whitwell orchard
We have helped two community orchards bloom thanks to our community woodlands project.
*Whitwell*
We partnered with Whitwell Parish Council to provide a community orchard with 22 fruit trees. Once the trees are mature enough to bear fruit it will be free for residents to take whatever they need.
*South Normanton*
We worked with Brigg Infant School to apply for Tree Council funding and there are now 51 fruit and native tress planted. Planting took place in March 2023 and the school took the lead in planting and maintaining the area.

Commissioning a woodland strategy
South Street Recreation Ground community orchard
We plan to commission a new woodland strategy. Trees and woodlands provide a broad range of benefits to communities. Having a clear and broadly understood strategy will enable the desired benefits to be achieved.
This piece of work will enhance our local nature recovery plan and enable us to make decisions about our woodlands and other trees.
The strategy will set out a vision to expand, protect, improve, and deliver action for our trees and woodlands. We will seek your views on what our priorities and actions should be within this important document.
