Whitwell Brass band rehearsal
Formed in 1867, Whitwell Brass is one of the oldest brass bands in the country. Closely associated with the district’s mining past, the band is very active in both local community events and national competitions, and it is the latter that the band recently had something to shout about.

Unearthed at Creswell Crags

Evidence has shown that big animals like the woolly mammoths, hyenas and brown bears once lived at Creswell Crags. But in the latest episode of our 'Unearthed at Creswell Crags' we sift through some unprocessed sediment that has recently been excavated and it gives plenty of clues of the many small mammals who once lived at the Crags. From this small sample Dr Angharad Jones says there are many hidden clues that tell us what the environment at the Crags was like.
