Newton Community Centre re-opening
Newton Community Centre new floor
From starting life as an army canteen, Newton Community Centre has gone through a lot of changes in its 105 year history.
Recently, a mysterious dip appeared in the floor and it was decided to rip it out and replace it with a brand new one.
The building has been closed since 2022 while the extensive work was undertaken and the team at the centre are now ready to reopen the building again. We went down to see them and find out more about the repair process.

Whitwell Brass Band Scoops Regional Title
Formed in 1867, Whitwell Brass is one of the oldest brass bands in the country.
Closely associated with the district’s mining past, the band is very active in both local community events and national competitions, and it is the latter that the band recently had something to shout about.
