Notice of Concern Research Sessions

As part of Birmingham City Council (BCC)’s Customer Service Programme, we are running research sessions to understand the experience of members of the public and professionals in reporting a safeguarding concern/s about a child in employment. These concerns are reported directly to the child employment team at BCC.

Sessions will run from April 2024 onwards and we are looking to engage members of the public and workers who are supporting a child and/or family in a professional capacity. Workers may include, but are not limited to, teachers, police officers and social workers.

Notice of concern is the process of reporting a concern/s about the wellbeing of a child in employment directly to the child employment team at BCC. Concerns may include:

  • a child working in an unsafe environment or working in a role that is unsuitable for their age or ability
  • someone’s behaviour, such as a chaperone who is looking after the child while at work
  • an employer or organisation that has not obtained the correct licences and permits

How you can help

During a 60-minute research session, you will complete and submit a test form to report a safeguarding concern about a child in employment. We will share with you a pre-prepared scenario relating to a concern, which will help you complete the form.

By participating in one of these research sessions, you will be helping us to provide a better service for those who may need to report a concern, as well as those who the form is designed to support.

This is a test of our systems and not a real submission of a notice of concern form. It is important to note that the questions on the form may present a risk of causing distress. We have, however, aimed to mitigate the risk of distress that may occur for those involved in the research, with further information available in the link below.

Interested in taking part? Find out more and complete the consent form.

We will then get in touch to let you know about any available sessions. Note that the 60-minute sessions are arranged on a first-come, first-served basis and we apologise if we cannot accommodate you at this time.

If you have any questions, email CustomerServiceProgramme@Birmingham.gov.uk.
