Voter ID
Bassetlaw District Council is urging residents to head to the polls on 2 May 2024 and have their say.
British, Commonwealth and European Union citizens living in Bassetlaw are eligible to vote in elections for a new East Midlands Mayor and a Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
To vote in these elections at a polling station, you will now need to show photo ID. The Electoral Commission has a full list of all accepted forms of photo ID [
] on their website.
You will only need to show one form of photo ID. It needs to be the original version and not a photocopy.
You can still use your photo ID if it's out of date, as long as it looks like you.
The name on your ID should be the same name you used to register to vote.

The rules on who can hand in postal votes has changed
Handing in postal votes on polling day
For elections taking place on 2 May, you will be only able to hand in your own postal vote, and the postal votes of up to five other people, at a polling station or to an authorized member of staff at Queen's Buildings in Worksop or the One Stop Shop at Retford Town Hall.
When handing in postal votes, you will need to complete a form. You will need to include your name and address, how many postal votes you are handing in and why you are handing in those postal votes.
Campaigners can only hand in their own postal vote, and postal votes for up to five other people that are either close relatives, or someone they provide regular care for.
Please do not post any postal votes through the letterboxes at any of the Council offices as they will be rejected.

Voting at a polling station

Your poll card will have information about voting and will tell you the address of your polling station. Make sure you check the details as your polling station may have changed since the last time you voted. You can also find your polling station by using our online postcode finder [
].
On Thursday 2 May 2024, polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm. Remember to bring your photo ID with you.
When you arrive, staff will ask for your name and address, check the electoral register and your photo ID, and, if accepted, issue you with two ballot papers:
• East Midlands Combined County Authority Mayoral Election
• Police and Crime Commissioner Election
The East Midlands Combined County Authority Mayoral Election and the Police & Crime Commissioner Election are both first-past-the-post, so you will have ONE vote on each of the ballot papers and the candidate who gets the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.
