Greener bin collections
We are taking action that will more than halve our carbon footprint when our kerbside waste and recycling trucks swap diesel for a low-carbon biofuel next month. Our waste and recycling contractor Serco is also trialling a zero-emission electric bin truck for its kerbside collections in the borough. Find out more about our action to tackle the climate emergency on our website.

New playing surface at Down Grange
We have replaced the old artificial hockey and football pitch at Down Grange Sports Complex with a brand-new playing surface that is the first of its kind in the country and will be used for hockey at the Paris Olympics this year. Players of all ages from Basingstoke Hockey Club have been among the first to use the council-owned pitch.

Damage at Chapel of Holy Ghost restoration site
We are disappointed that there has been some damage at our restoration site at the Chapel of the Holy Ghost which
has been reported to the police. Our community safety patrol officers are regularly patrolling the site and additional lighting and surveillance cameras have been installed. If you witness antisocial behaviour at the site please report it on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Targeted help for victims of domestic abuse
Victims of domestic abuse in Basingstoke and Deane and Hart will be able to access vital support as part of a new service, thanks to a £112,000 grant from Hampshire County Council, using funding provided by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. The funds will provide a new specialist support outreach programme for victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

Food Waste Action Week
This week is Food Waste Action Week encouraging us all to 'Choose What You'll Use' and highlighting the benefits of buying loose fruit and vegetables. Research has shown that if all apples, bananas and potatoes were sold loose, we could save 60,000 tonnes of food waste. Find receipes and tip at Love Food Hate Waste.
