Meet Isobel Booler, our new Assistant Director for Education & Inclusion
Isobel Booler image
I was delighted to join Westmorland and Furness as *Assistant Director, Education and Inclusion* in January.
I join you after working as Director of Education and Skills in Bury Council since 2021; prior to this, I worked as deputy to the Director of Education in Manchester from 2017 and worked as both a school improvement advisor and a primary Headteacher in a large school in an area of disadvantage. I started my teaching career as a secondary teacher in Bury, Barrow, and in Huddersfield, and had the privilege of teaching overseas in both Namibia and Tanzania for several years.
I am committed to ensuring all children have access to the best educational opportunities and to improving the experiences and outcomes of children with identified SEND.
I have met Georgina as Chair of SENDAC, and look forward to meeting more parent and carers of children with identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in the next few months, as well as visiting more schools and meeting more of our young people. I have been struck by how inclusive our mainstream schools are, which is a real strength of our Local Area.
It is an exciting time as we continue to develop our Children’s Directorate with a strong Education and Inclusion team focused on improving the educational outcomes and life chances for all our children, including those with identified SEND.
I look forward to working in partnership with SENDAC, and our parents and carers and school leaders, ensuring that we listen to the ambitions and aspirations of our young people and support them to fulfil their individual potential as well as your first hand experiences.
We are having our first Westmorland and Furness SEND partnership meeting this week to progress our SEND strategy and plans with all partners across the SEND Local Area.
My thanks to colleagues and wider partners who have made me very welcome, and I look forward to working together to ensure that we have an improving SEND Local Offer.
