TOP STORY: Council’s new customer-focussed Voreda House opens its doors
Westmorland and Furness Council’s new customer-focussed offices in Penrith will open to the public for the first time [
] on Monday (17 June).
Voreda House has been transformed from a former NHS office into the council’s energy efficient, northern anchor building.
It has been designed to be the first retrofit office building to meet the PassivHaus EnerPHit standard in the UK, with energy savings estimated at 85%, contributing positively to the council’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and providing leadership in the drive to be carbon net zero.
It will house public-facing services, delivering on Westmorland and Furness’s ambition to put customers at the heart of everything it does.

Kendal bridges closed for precautionary safety assessments [
]
Brigsteer and Underbarrow bridges, which run over the A591 near Kendal, closed on Wednesday 12 June as a precautionary measure due to structural concerns.
An external expert report commissioned by the Council has identified structural concerns and recommended a closure, until further notice, on both bridges to allow for further detailed assessment and monitoring.
Throughout the closure, all traffic including vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and emergency services will be required to follow the signed diversions that will be in place.
The A591 will remain open and is safe for road users to continue travelling on the route. By acting on the findings of the specialist report and closing off access to both Brigsteer and Underbarrow bridges, the safety of the A591 will not be compromised.
We apologise for the cause inconvenience this closure may cause our residents and we thank you in advance for your patience as we carry out these essential assessments.
More information on closure of Brigsteer and Underbarrow bridges, the diversion route and FAQs can be found at westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk [
