TOP STORY: Westmorland and Furness schools to benefit from over £1 million in improvements this summer
Essential maintenance works will be taking place [
] across several Westmorland and Furness schools during the summer holidays, amounting to over £1 million in improvements.
The Capital Programme team, consultants and contractors will be completing a range of important upgrades and maintenance projects to improve the safety, quality and energy efficiency of school buildings.
Works will include electrical and fire system safety upgrades, overhauling water tanks and heating systems through to structural projects, such as replacing internal walls and external building facias.
The works will be completed in time for children and staff returning from their well-earned break, ready to start the Autumn term.

Have your say on a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)
We’re asking for your input and views to help shape the future of a new order for the area.
A PSPO is a tool available to local authorities under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which helps to address the impact of anti-social behaviour and make sure that it does not have a detrimental effect to the local community’s quality of life.
The orders are intended to help ensure that people can use and enjoy our public spaces and are kept safe from anti-social behaviour.

Crooklands Canalathon, a triathlon with a paddleboarding twist!
Westmorland and Furness Council was delighted to support the Lancaster Canal Towpath Trail with a recent grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to support their work making the route between Kendal and Lancaster accessible for walking, cycling, paddling, and general rural enjoyment.
On Saturday 31 August, a fun fundraiser has been organised - the Crooklands Canalathon, a gentle triathlon with a paddleboarding twist.
The challenge is made of 2.8k paddleboarding, 2.5k running and 10 or 5k cycling.
Entry will be £15, which will go towards the Towpath Trail project and participants from eight years of age are welcome to enter, however the paddleboarding section is for those aged 18 and over only.
