TOP STORY: Tell us what you think: Healthy Child Programme consultation
Image reads: Healthy child programme consultation
The council has launched a consultation on a proposed redesign of their Healthy Child Programme services.
The Healthy Child Programme (HCP) offers every family a range of support, including screening tests, immunisations, developmental reviews, and information and guidance to support parents, children, and young people to grow, develop and thrive.
The council has engaged significantly with families, children, and young people to develop the proposal they are now consulting on.
The Healthy Child Programme aims to build healthy communities for families and children and reduce inequalities and vulnerabilities. It includes a range of activity from universal services for all through to intensive support.
Find out more about the proposals and *complete the surveys online* using the appropriate link below.

New special school for Westmorland and Furness
We received some exciting news yesterday from the Department for Education...
Our bid for a new special school for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) has been successful!
The council had applied to the Department for Education for a new special school with approximately 140 places for children aged 4-19 with autism and speech, communications and language difficulties.
The new school will provide dedicated support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and will add much needed capacity to special schools and enable more children to have their needs met closer to home.
The location and design of the school are yet to be determined but the council is aiming for somewhere in the Eden area. The council will now work with the government, partners and SENDAC, parents and carers forum, to deliver the school.
Here's [
] what our Director of Children's Services, Mil Vasic, and our Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills, Cllr Sue Sanderson, had to say on the announcement...
