Global IT issue
We are aware of a global IT issue impacting some organisations today. The cause is being reported as being related to be an update rolled out by Crowdstrike, a global cybersecurity firm which is affecting some Microsoft Services.
Our council systems do not use Microsoft services that are affected by the Crowdstrike product, but some third-party systems we rely on may be experiencing problems.
This could potentially affect the delivery of some services. We're closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates if anything changes or impacts materialise.

TOP STORY: Council sets out its “Ambitions for Every Child” in new strategy for children and young people
Westmorland and Furness Council has set out its ambitions for every child in a new strategy approved this week.
The 5-year Children and Young People’s plan was approved by cabinet and comes on the back of a successful Ofsted inspection result.
The council’s Children’s Services department was rated as “Good” by Ofsted following a routine inspection back in April.
The new strategy - and the strategic priorities and ambitions within it - are based on the views of children, young people, and their families.
According to the strategy, which is available on the council website [
], children and young people said they want to feel safe in their communities and in their homes, that they want to do well at school, receive more help to progress into training or work, receive support earlier for their health and wellbeing, and take part in activities or visiting places that are inexpensive.

Bring fresh, local fruit to Carleton Park in Penrith!
Exciting news! The Carleton Park community group has submitted an application to plant a community orchard in the park. This program, funded for the 24/25 planting season, allows groups to create orchards on public land for everyone to enjoy. Imagine a variety of fruit and nut trees, from juicy apples and pears to walnuts and cherries, flourishing right in your neighbourhood!
The funding covers the planting of 5-10 trees, but the long-term care becomes the responsibility of the local community. We therefore want to hear from you!
Are you interested in seeing a charming little orchard in Carleton Park?
Would you be willing to lend a hand with maintaining and protecting the trees?
Do you have any concerns about the project?
We value your thoughts! Share your ideas by emailing us at futuretrees@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk by 31st July 2024. Or, join us in person to discuss the orchard on Friday 26th July at 10am in Carleton Park.
