Still time to apply for energy efficiency upgrades

People living in homes which don’t have gas heating systems still have time to take advantage of a new grant scheme which provides energy efficiency and clean heating upgrades to households in the Ashford borough.

The grant will pay for energy-saving upgrades for residents who don’t heat their homes by mains gas. The improvements will help to use less energy, reduce your carbon footprint and spend less on energy bills. The scheme is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

By Easter the Ashford Picturehouse at Elwick Place will come under new management. Picturehouse Cinemas will hand the six-screen cinema and restaurant to the council, and we will operate the venue with an industry specialist, and the same cinema staff.

Once we knew Picturehouse were handing their lease over, we felt it was important to take action. Rather than stand-by and do nothing, we decided we should step in and, for the benefit of the local community, do all we can to keep our town centre cinema and entertainment offer at Elwick Place open for business.

Without our intervention, it would have closed at the turn of the new year, creating immediate job losses, not to mention the adverse effect it could have had on other Elwick tenants. More information is available in our initial statement.

We are currently in a transition period with the anticipated handover happening before Easter, however for the moment it’s very much business as usual for cinema goers.

Picturehouse Members will be contacted directly about any time remaining on their account and customers with pre-bookings will be notified about their upcoming ticket bookings.
