Our summer/autumn edition is now out and it's packed with lots of features that we hope you enjoy reading. This includes local free wellbeing services available to you, election guidance, activities and events to keep you entertained this summer, marking anniversaries with our Twin Towns, new competitions to enter and much more.

We also want to take the opportunity to apologise to residents for any inconvenience caused, due to a printing error on the Weald of Kent constituency map on P.17 which contained some mislabelled wards. This error has now been fixed on the digital edition.

Introducing the new Mayor of Ashford

We're sure residents will join us in wishing a very warm welcome to Cllr Lyn Suddards, who was inaugurated as the new Mayor of Ashford this month.

Representing Beaver Ward, Cllr Suddard's chosen charity during her term is Sk8side Youth Centre which offers a free service for young people and provides them with an empowering and nurturing environment where they can develop as individuals and gain all the skills they need as they go into young adulthood. 

Our new Deputy Mayor is Cllr Winston Michael, who represents the Goat Lees Ward.

Thursday 6 June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when allied forces mounted the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed.
 
Join us to commemorate the day with our programme of activities, including a D-Day Flag Raising Ceremony, Commemorative Ceremony in Ashford Memorial Gardens, beacon lighting and the return of the floral Spitfire.

New events for Ashford Town Centre and support from sponsors

We're delighted that four new sponsors have been secured to support our headline events programme this year. Bucksford LawEKC Ashford CollegeKent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and You Fibre have all come on board as joint-presenting partners, helping to raise the profile of this year’s Food & Drink Festival (July), Create Music Village (October) and Carnival of the Baubles (November).

We also hope you love our new billboard as much as we do, which has been unveiled in New Street and gives residents and visitors a regular reminder of what's coming very soon to Ashford Town Centre.

Round two of the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) is now open for applications. The funding, which is aimed at supporting rural businesses in the borough is available through a Rural Green Business Grant and also a Rural Place and Provenance Grant.

Both grants are open for applications until 11:59pm 30 June 2024.

If you need extra support as a result of the cost of living then come along to our Eat Well Spend Less roadshow on Wednesday 12 June from 10am to 2pm at St Mildred's Church, Tenterden, TN30 6AT.
 
The event brings together a range of partner organisations including frontline NHS staff and Ashford Borough Council officers, outreach organisations and charities, in one easy-to-access place.

Summer is here and where better to enjoy the great outdoors than at Godinton House & Gardens in the leafy countryside near Ashford. We have two single entry garden tickets to give away to one lucky newsletter subscriber.

Godinton House & Gardens is Ashford’s hidden gem where sheep graze in ancient parkland graced by magnificent trees. Wander through the peaceful 12-acre formal gardens to discover an elegant Italian garden, a pretty rose garden and a walled garden filled with flowers, fruit and vegetables.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is to respond to this email by including your full name, address, email and telephone contact number – it’s as simple as that! Closing date for replies is 12 noon on Friday 7 JuneView the competition terms and conditions.

Armed Forces Day takes place on 29 June 2024 this year and to mark the occasion, there will be an event organised by the Ashford Veterans Community Club on 30 June. It takes place at Victoria Park, Jemmett Road between 10am-5pm and will feature live music, refreshments, displays, a raffle and more. For more information email nikki@ashfordveteranscc.org
