Community Network event a success
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our recent Petteril Community Network event.
Residents, businesses and other partners were invited to network and discuss the panel’s three priorities - children and young people, emotional wellbeing and mental health, and the environment.
More than 40 people gave their views, and their feedback will help shape the panel’s Neighbourhood Investment Plan. This plan sets out how investments will be made over the coming year.
There were also presentations:
- Cllr Lisa Brown (Petteril panel vice-chair, Deputy Leader of the council and Portfolio Holder for Communities) gave an overview of the council structure and the importance of the panel network.
- Attendees heard about the Carlisle Southern Link Road.
- There was an update on Carlisle Projects – the regeneration projects at the Greenmarket in the city centre, Devonshire Street and the railway station.
Participants were able to ask questions and give feedback, which will be taken back to the relevant teams.
We also explained more about how people could get involved by becoming a co-opted member of the Community Panel.
The event also set out to answer some questions asked by the community at a previous event. We have set these out below:
Question
What will happen to the University of Cumbria building once it has moved to its new premises?
Response
There isn’t yet a confirmed plan - the project is in its infancy and the university is still operating fully from Fusehill. The panel noted the concerns of residents, and said it hoped to work with them when the time came to discuss options for the building. The panel wanted it to be of value to the community and looked forward to seeing what was possible.
Question
How can people hear about and get involved with city centre regeneration projects?
Response
The council’s Carlisle Projects team were attending that evening’s network event to give an update on regeneration projects, including Carlisle Station, which is in the panel area. People can also follow the council on social media to hear updates, or check the website for press releases.
Question
How have residents with disabilities been taken into account regarding the Community Network and its events?
Response
The panel said it wanted to “meet people where they are at.” The panels and networks have been designed to be as flexible as possible and the panel would like to hear more about how it can improve how it works.
It was decided the next Community Network event would be in April or
