Getting to work on Modern Slavery in Cumbria
Churches together
In May 2023, around 80 people gathered in Barrow-in-Furness to discuss how modern slavery can be tackled more effectively in Cumbria.
The day was the brainchild of Jo Phillips, Churches Together in Cumbria and Rachael Hoggarth of Women’s Community Matters with the support of the The Clewer Initiative.

Modern Slavery networking event: frontline practitioners
The networking event is designed to raise awareness, inform and equip those working on the frontline in whatever capacity. This includes practitioners working across a range of agencies including (but not limited to) NHS organisations, Local Authorities, Police, Fire Service, Third Sector, Faith Communities and Department for Work & Pensions.
Practitioners who attend will find it useful, to hear from the trainers and presenters, but will benefit from opportunities to network and hear from other agencies about what they're encountering and doing about it...or gaps in services and knowledge bases.
There will be facilitated sessions during the afternoon which will encourage people to consider the issues including what actions can be taken to tackle this in collaboration and partnership with the support from others in the network.
