School transport applications are open

We are encouraging parents and carers of children starting primary or secondary school in September 2024, to apply online for home to school transport before the deadline on *Friday 31 May.*
The council provide free school transport to pupils who attend their catchment or nearest qualifying school and live more than two miles away (up to 8 years old) or three miles away (aged 8 years old and over). Apply through the online form.

Children from low-income families (those receiving free school meals and uniform vouchers, or those whose families qualify for Working Tax Credit or Universal Credit at the maximum level) may also be eligible for support with school transport. Applications received after 31 May 2024 may not be processed before September, so make sure you apply as soon as possible.

Department for Education Updates:
Consultation launched on EYFS Safeguarding Requirements
The Department for Education has launched a consultation on proposals to strengthen the *EYFS safeguarding requirements*, to ensure our youngest children are kept as safe as possible. The Department is looking to formalise existing best practice with these proposals, ensuring that all practitioners have the knowledge and support they need to deliver the safest, highest quality early education and childcare provision possible.

Foundation Years EYFS Profile page - new content published
The Department for Education’s EYFS Profile communications page [

] provides teachers with support to complete the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Profile.
The most recent update [
] was published on the 17th April. It provides information on completing the EYFS Profile for children who remain in EYFS provision beyond age 5.
Previous updates include completing the EYFS Profile for children with special educational needs and disabilities, exemptions from the EYFS learning and development requirements, completing the EYFS Profile for children who transfer schools, and a vodcast that support Reception Teams in completing the EYFSP.

This week (Monday 22 to Sunday 28 April 2024) is Reusable Nappy Week. The campaign is aiming to raise awareness about the benefits of reusable nappies.* *
With the cost-of-living crisis still hugely affecting many households across the UK, this year’s campaign ‘Pass The Nappy’ will showcase sustainable and cost-effective nappy solutions, which focuses on Environmental Impact, Financial Benefits, Nappy Options and Myth-busting.
