Child Safety Week
Child safety week
Child Safety Week is running this week from the 3rd to 9th June. Please encourage everyone to make safety a priority by sharing safety messages throughout this week and beyond. Each message shared helps children lead active, healthy lives, safe from serious injury.
The Child Accident Prevention Trust have a wealth of useful information on their website:

You can download their parent pack with lots of bite-sized safety tips to keep children safe:

Code Validation for working families
As you will be aware, families from the 12th May were able to apply for a working families code for children 9 months and above to start in September.
*We would like to remind you to verify the codes via the Early Years Provider Portal to ensure that you can offer available places to families and perhaps remind families that if they got their code early, they may have to reconfirm their code in August.*
The DfE Hub for Providers contains a bank of resources to help you with implementing the childcare expansion programme - HUB for providers - childcareworks.org.uk [

Recruitment Incentives for the Early Years Sector – reminder
Family
This is a reminder that Cumberland has been selected by the Department for Education as one of the pilot areas for a scheme that is aimed at attracting new entrants to the early years sector.
*Please find the application form **here* [
]* if you would like to apply to offer the £1000 incentive.*
New recruits will receive a £1,000 bonus shortly after they start their first role in childcare, or if they return to a childcare role after a gap of at least six months. They can work full or part time, and must spend at least 70% of their time working directly with children.
The DfE are also encouraging you to use their recruitment and campaign resources to promote early years as a career:

Pride Month
Pride
Pride Month [
] began on Saturday, June 1, to mark a time of celebrating LGBTQ [
]+ identity and raising awareness of issues facing the community [
] around the world. This year’s campaign will look to honour and celebrate the 1.5 million people in England and Wales who identify as LGBTQ+.
Across the month, Stonewall and other charities and organisations will seek to promote change and acceptance within society and workplaces.
It will also provide a chance for more people to learn about the history of gay communities and their fight for rights.
Some upcoming local events are:
Silloth Pride – 29th June
Pride by the Harbour (Whitehaven) – 3rd August

* *Friday* – Reduce food waste – Aim for the right amount of food when you shop, cook and eat

Update from the Department for Education on Provider NW Roadshow
We previously shared an invitation to the DfE Early Years and Childcare Expansion Provider Roadshow or the North West region which was due to take place on Thursday 20th June in Wigan.
However, as you are aware, the Prime Minister on 22 May called a general election for 4 July, and parliament is dissolved.
We are now in a pre-election period; this will last until the General Election concludes.
During this time Civil Servants and Ministers must adhere to published Cabinet Office guidance and are limited to discussions on operational essential matters and can’t comment on future policy government matters, for this reason, the DfE need to *postpone the event. *We apologise for the late notice and any inconvenience this may cause. The DfE are looking to re-arrange the event in September/October time and will send out further details on how to register for this new date shortly
