Cumberland Leaflet Swap Shop
Leaflets
Cumberland Council is inviting you to join its first leaflet swap shop which will take place on Monday 25 March 2024, at Solway Hall in Whitehaven. All tourism and hospitality businesses, within Cumberland Council, are welcome to join the free event.
If you ever struggle to suggest activities, accommodation, or attractions to your customers, then this event is perfect for you. The event gives businesses a chance to network with businesses within the Western Lake District and Coast. And, of course, you will be able to exchange leaflets with businesses. Building connections with like-minded businesses is a great way to keep visitors in our area.
The event will take place between 11am and 2pm. Each business will be allocated a table to display their leaflets. Businesses are welcome to bring a backdrop, but it is not essential. The doors will open at 10.30am to begin setting up your stand and the event will begin at 11am.
Free food and refreshments will be provided on the day.
The event is free, and businesses must sign up to be able to attend. The deadline for the business sign up is at 12pm on Thursday 21 March.
You can sign up by completing a small online form. [

If you have any queries about the event, please contact danni.armstrong@cumberland.gov.uk

* For 18-20-year-olds, the rate will rise to £8.60 per hour (up 14.8%).
* For 16-17-year-olds, the new rate will be £6.40 per hour (up 21.2%).

Artists needed for new Workington Art Trail
Workington Art Trail
Three local artists are being given the opportunity to take part in a new art trail in Workington.
Cumberland Council is commissioning three visual artists from north and west Cumbria to produce artworks and deliver creative workshops for a Workington Art Trail.
Workington Art Trail, in combination with Workington Sound and Light Show, is an Arts Council England and Cumberland Council funded project aimed at bringing footfall back to the town centre and showcasing what the area has to offer.
Artwork will be installed in windows of selected shops in and around Workington shopping centre, accompanied by a digital map and information to help visitors enjoy and learn about each piece as they go.
The three commissioned artists will work with a community group to co-create collaborative artworks. They will also be funded to create their own piece in response to your experiences on the project.
Any artist wishing to take part, is asked to attend a briefing and a Citizens' Assembly to meet the project team and members of the community, and gather inspiration. They'll then be asked to design and deliver one high-quality creative workshop with a pre-arranged group (e.g. a primary class, youth, adult, or elderly group) and, create a new artwork(s) of your own, inspired by your experiences and learning during the project.
The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 1 March 2024.

Would you like to help shape your community whilst expanding your skills?
Community Panels
Want to get involved with how investments are made in the area you live or work in?
We’re looking for people from all walks of life – including the business community - who can offer their skills, insight and experience to our Community Panels.
The eight panels direct funding and investment at a grass roots level. They’re made up of the ward councillors for that area but now, some of them are looking to co-opt fresh faces.
Co-optees can’t vote, but they can but they can ask questions, bring their own perspective and give advice – enriching the decision-making process with their unique knowledge.
If selected, members serve for 12 months. You’ll be offered training and it’s a great opportunity to develop new skills and network with likeminded others.
This is an opportunity for everyone - we want to see new faces in local democracy so, if you are interested, find out more on the Cumberland Council website. [
