National Child Exploitation Awareness Day 18 March 2024

As part of the awareness raising of child exploitation, the CSCP will be delivering a bitesize learning session to encourage everyone to think about and spot the signs of child exploitation.
The training session will take place on *Monday 18th March 2024, 12:45-2:15pm*, via Microsoft Teams and will cover:
* What is child exploitation, a basic understanding
* What to do if a child is being exploited
* Understand the role of the Complex Safeguarding Team
* Understand the Police response to child exploitation

Child Exploitation - Complex Safeguarding Team
The Complex Safeguarding Teams focus on Child Exploitation (CE) and Missing. There is a Complex Safeguarding Team in each authority, one in Cumberland and one in Westmorland and Furness.
If you need to discuss a concern regarding a child who you suspect is at risk of exploitation, there is now a mailbox for each Complex Safeguarding Team. You can contact the Complex Safeguarding Teams via the mailboxes below, to request support, advice and guidance.

Practitioner Forums
practitioner forums
Practitioner Forums help people who work with children and young people learn from each other, understand each other's roles and responsibilities and what local provision is available in each part of the county.
The Practitioner Forums are free to attend, you can attend any practitioner forum across the county, why not give one of the forums a try?

*Westmorland and Furness (Penrith)*
* Wednesday 1st May 2024 (1.30-3.30pm) - Penrith Rugby Club, Penrith
The forums are being delivered either face to face or via Microsoft Teams.

Cumberland Safeguarding Hub Workshops for DSL's in Schools

Cumberland Safeguarding Hub held their first workshop for School Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL’s) on 29th January, there was a great response and it was great to meet DSL's in person for the first time.
Cumberland Safeguarding Hub are keen to reach out to more school DSL's to continue to develop safeguarding practice linked to the Cumberland Safeguarding Hub 'front door'.
Bookings are now being taken for the next two planned sessions which are detailed below:
* Monday 4th March 2024 (9.30am-12pm) Cumbria House, Carlisle
* Wednesday 8th May 2024 (9.30am-12pm) Workington Community Fire Station, Moorclose

Child Safeguarding Incidents
the child safeguarding practice review panel
The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel for England has published its 2022/23 annual report. The report analyses data and outlines learning from serious incidents, rapid reviews, local child safeguarding practice reviews, national reviews, thematic analysis and reports. Key themes explored include: supporting critical thinking and professional challenge; impact of racial, ethnic and cultural identity on the lived experience of children; and recognising and responding to the vulnerability of babies. The Panel also provides plans for its future work. NSPCC Learning has summarised the learning from the report in a CASPAR briefing.
