Help us tackle fly tipping

Fly tipping is a blight on our beautiful East Herts countryside. We are therefore pleased to announce that our team was recently able to track down the perpetrators of a fly tip off Gobions Lane in Stepleford. Their vehicle was spotted by an eagle-eyed resident who passed on the information.

As a result, a construction company from Kent has been fined £600 for failing in their duty of care and for the offence of allowing their vehicle to be used to fly tip, and the person who committed the offence has been issued with a fixed penalty notice of £900.

You can report a fly tip via our website and we will investigate, clear up the mess and, where possible, prosecute those responsible.

It's National Gardening Week

Set up by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2012, National Gardening Week raises awareness of the difference that gardening can make to our lives and aims to make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.

Even if you don't have a garden, you can still be a gardener. Sales of house plants have rocketed over the last few years as more and more people recognise the joy of growing and creating beautiful green spaces in their home.

East Herts Executive Member for Planning and Growth, Vicky Glover-Ward, recently visited Houseplants Express in Bishop's Stortford, to talk to owner, Martin. His business started trading from a market stall but has recently moved to permanent premises at 16 Riverside Walk thanks to an East Herts premises grant, courtesy of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

In our video interview, Martin talks about how the grant has benefited the business and shares his plans for bringing  beautiful, good value plants to indoor gardeners in Bishop's Stortford and across the UK.

Walking sports at The Sele School

The Sele School in Hertford is delighted to announce the addition of Walking Sports to their out-of-hours activities.

Walking Sports are ideal if you are returning to sport, would like to pick up a sport that you enjoyed in the past, or just want the fun and friendship of taking part in a team sport.

Walking Sports follow the rules of the standard game but are played at a gentle pace, so that you can enjoy all the fun of a sport you love without the strenuous pace or physical contact that might be expected in the standard game.

At a cost of £2 a session you are able to just turn up and get involved in walking cricket, football and netball.
