Are your child's vaccines up to date?

We know your child’s health is your top priority and so protecting them from serious disease is incredibly important. That's why the NHS offers a free childhood vaccine programme, safeguarding your child from certain illnesses.

Immunisations offer the best protection for children against many common illnesses – preventing over 5,000 deaths and over 100,000 hospital admissions each year.

Is your child up to date with their vaccinations? Check their Red Book or contact your GP surgery if you’re unsure.

Although it important that vaccines are given on time for the best protection, if you or your child have missed a vaccine, it is never too late to contact your GP to check if you can catch up.

Get help to quit on No Smoking Day

Wednesday 13 March marks the 40th anniversary of No Smoking Day, a time to unite and offer encouragement and support to those on their quitting journey.

In England, there are still over 5.3 million adults who smoke, and smoking is the main cause of preventable death in England. But smoking rates have declined a lot since the first No Smoking Day 40 years ago and this year’s No Smoking Day campaign aims to continue this pattern and encourage people to quit.

Did you know that smokers who want to quit are three times more likely to succeed with the right support? Healthy Cornwall's text support service is free and easy to use. Text 'SMOKEFREE' to 82228 for helpful tips, advice, tools, and motivation sent to your phone.

You can also find a lot of advice on the Healthy Cornwall Smokefree web page or by joining Healthy Cornwall’s Stop Smoking Support group on Facebook.

A30 - temporary change to diversion route

For the overnight closures of the A30 between Boxheater and Scorrier this week and the upcoming weekend closure from Friday 8 to 11 March, there has been a slight change to the westbound diversion route for HGVs / high sided vehicles.

Westbound HGV traffic during these closures will need to divert via Chacewater in order to avoid the low bridge at Scorrier (4.7m / 15' 3"). This temporary change to the diversion route is due to work repairing a collapsed mineshaft on the A393 Sandy Lane, which is typically used for these diversions.

Next week 11-17 March is Safer Sleep Week.

Safer Sleep Week is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and the simple advice that reduces the risk of it occurring.

Sadly around 3 babies a week still die from SIDS and if all parents were aware of safer sleep advice many lives could be saved.
