Coming soon: one Library Management System for all BCP libraries
image
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole libraries are all moving to a new library management system shared by LibrariesWest. This is the computer system libraries use to issue, return and reserve library resources.

The last day we will be using our current library management systems is Wednesday 22 May. The Bournemouth online catalogue will be unavailable from Monday 20 May. The LibrariesWest website will be unavailable from Thursday 23 May.

How will this affect me?

From Thursday 23rd May libraries will operate with a reduced system as we move across to our new one. You will still be able to return and borrow items, but please ensure you bring your library membership card and pin with you to enable you to do this.

Any items due for return during this time will be extended until Saturday 15th June.

You will not be able to place reservations during this period.

All libraries will be fully functional by Thursday 6th June, and all libraries across BCP will be using the same new system.

Online services

The website and app will not be available until Friday 7th June.

During this period, you will be unable to log on to your account, search the library catalogue or reserve items.

The website remains www.librarieswest.org.uk.

If you already have the app downloaded it will automatically update on your device.

Borrowbox

Customers who are already logged into BorrowBox (for access to e-books, e-audiobooks and e-newspapers) will still be able to access them during this time.

Any customers who are not logged into BorrowBox will be unable to access it until the new website goes lives on Friday 7th June.

Customers are advised to remain logged into BorrowBox to avoid losing access.

The benefits

From 7 June you will be able to use your library card in any library in BCP, search the library catalogue and log on to your accounts at www.librarieswest.org.uk.

You will also be able to reserve, borrow and return items from any LibrariesWest library.

We apologise for any disruption caused while this work is completed. Further updates will follow in the coming weeks.

Beyond the Bassline: 500 years of Black British Music
image
Inspired by the British Library’s new Beyond the Bassline exhibition, our free panel display from the Living Knowledge Network tells a national story about Black music in Britain.

The panel display documents 500 years of Black music in Britain and explores the people, places and genres that have formed a British soundtrack. It highlights music as a form of entertainment and vehicle for community, as well as a source of liberation, protest and education. It spotlights clubs, carnivals and community hubs from across the country that have cultivated creative expression and inspired a number of Black British music genres.

Find the exhibition at Kinson Library until May 24 and then at Bournemouth Library from 3 June - 27 July.

Libby (digital magazines) back online
image
We are pleased to inform you that the Libby service (digital magazines) is now working again, including any back issues missed whilst the service was unavailable.

During the period whilst the service was offline, the contract for comics and graphic novels came to its end.  Due to their very low usage the decision was made to not renew this contract.

Please accept our apologies for the disruption in service, and thank you for your patience and for bearing with us.

You can access Libby by downloading the free app from Google Play or App store.
