Our project to relocate the service has been pushed back one month, so we will continue to deliver our searchroom service at the Record Office until Thursday 25th July and not 27th June as previously announced. We will also be open on Saturday 19th July. We will then reopen once the new centres in Crewe and Chester open in Winter 2025/26.

Journeying to Cheshire
Prince Warabo journeyed to Cheshire in 1881 from present-day Nigeria to go to school in Frodsham. We are now working again with the Cheshire Halton and Warrington Race Equality Centre (CHAWREC) to carry out oral history interviews with refugees and migrants, building on the legacy of the Journeys to Cheshire project of over a decade ago that also appear in our Hidden Histories online story.

This new project will enable us to add to the archives so that we will be able to tell the story of how migration to Cheshire has changed over the past 15 years and help explain why and how people have come to call Cheshire home.
We have two events coming up held jointly with Migration Stories North West [
] where members of the public can find out more. During Chester Heritage Festival we will be hosting a talk on Thursday 27th June at 7pm in the Unity Centre in Chester, bookable soon via the Heritage Festival website. On Saturday, 6 July, we will be at Chester Town Hall, 2-3pm, as part of the Festival of Ideas.

Discover Lindow
This May and June we will be joining in marking the anniversary of the discovery of Lindow man by sharing the story of the Lindow Moss landscape and its people from our collections. Historic photos, maps, artefacts and a film will be on display at Wilmslow Library between the Tuesday, 7 May - Friday, 14 June so why not drop in and find out all about peat cutting, ‘common’ life and ancient bog bodies!
