Middlewood Way - final link completed
Middlewood Way opening
The final link to one of the North West’s key walking and cycling routes is complete, connecting Macclesfield to Greater Manchester along a rural route of outstanding natural beauty.
It is expected that now this popular 11-mile traffic-free path has been fully opened, that it will encourage visitors from far beyond to Cheshire East.
Access to Macclesfield railway station has been significantly improved with the opening of this scheme and many people can now choose to arrive by bike and explore the beautiful surroundings.
These upgrades mean people on foot or cycle can now explore the magnificent scenery of Cheshire East, calling at the many picturesque towns and villages en route without having to compete with traffic.

As the weather sets to warm up, and there’s more daylight hours to enjoy, why not see what’s on offer for you and your family?

We want to hear from you!
You can take part in the below consultations. Your thoughts will help to shape the future of Cheshire East.

Air quality strategy consultation
We published an air quality strategy in 2011, which was subsequently reviewed and updated in 2018. The aim of the strategy is to support the achievement of the national air quality objectives and to ensure air quality is considered within a wide range of local government and regional planning frameworks. It aims to drive greater improvements in air quality at the local level and is reviewed on a five-yearly basis.
Due to the changes in legislation, plus the current strategy being more than five years old, we are undertaking a review of the strategy and would like your views on the proposed air quality strategy for 2024 to 2029.

New Local Plan issues paper
We are consulting on an issues paper as the first important step in producing a new local plan. This sets out a number of issues that we think the new Local Plan should consider. The consultation provides an opportunity to tell us what issues you think the plan should address and how it can help tackle local priorities.
