Chelmsford Museum opens exhibition exploring nature writer J.A. Baker
This* Saturday 23 March* Restless Brilliance: The Story of J.A. Baker and The Peregrine opens at Chelmsford Museum.
The exhibition is the first to explore the life and legacy of legendary nature writer and conservationist John Alec Baker. Co-curated by Chelmsford Museum and the University of Essex, it features more than *60 items from the university’s Baker archive*, including personal letters, photographs and detailed ornithological diaries.
The exhibition also draws on contributions from well-known modern-day naturalists, such as *Chris Packham and Sir David Attenborough*, as well as from residents and local artists, as it seeks to highlight the influential author’s legacy today.

Infrastructure changes enhance community safety
The city council’s Community Safety team have used recent feedback from residents and visitors through focus groups and community engagement to deliver a number of projects around Chelmsford in 2024*.* These include new CCTV cameras, additional safety lighting, and educational courses for young students and adults.

New community infrastructure coming to north-east Chelmsford
Significant additions to community facilities are set to be delivered in north-east Chelmsford this year, as work on the district’s new train station gathers pace. A new health centre and a second primary school building are being constructed at Beaulieu, with more facilities in the pipeline.

Local schoolchildren embrace wildflower planting project
This week, students from Newlands Spring Primary School lent their hands to a wildflower planting project at Copperfield Road Play Area. Guided by the Parks team, they planted over* 20* *species of wildflowers* in a bid to give nature space to thrive.

Air quality improves around busy Chelmsford roads
Monitoring by council officers has revealed that air quality has improved at the *Army and Navy roundabout* and a section of the *A414 **in** Danbury*. Nitrogen dioxide emissions have reduced, resulting in pollution levels in these areas now consistently meeting air quality objectives set by the Government.

Fly-tipper prosecuted and fined over £5,000
A professional waste carrier who illegally dumped waste in East Hanningfield has been prosecuted and ordered to pay *£5,020* in costs and fines. Council officers were able to track down the fly-tipper thanks to paperwork found amongst the car parts and scrap metal he had left piled in the road, obstructing traffic.

A new partnership for Ignite Chelmsford is supporting the city’s cultural sector by championing Chelmsford’s creatives and driving forward Ignite’s renewed action plan. The *13 new partners* come from varied backgrounds, representing a range of disciplines and communities across the district.

A12 closures in April
There is a full closure planned of the A12 northbound carriageway between *junctions 12* (Brentwood) and *15* (Three Mile Hill/Webb’s Farm Interchange) from *9pm* on *Friday 5 April* to *5am* on *Monday 8 April 2024.* A clearly signed diversion route will be in place. The southbound carriageway will remain open during this period.
