BESA has English and maths courses and qualifications starting from April 2024

If you’re interested in building confidence with your English or maths skills, here’s what we’ve got running.


There’s lots running, including courses on:

  • Practicing your communication skills for the workplace

  • Money skills to feel more in control of finances

  • Supporting your Year 6 children with their upcoming Math SATS tests

  • Building confidence with number skills through creative activities with Multiply

These courses are funded for adult residents aged 19 years and above in Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough.

*Vouchers for learning are available subject to meeting the funding criteria.

English courses

Communication at Work course

Starting on 22 April 2024. 6 week course, Monday evenings on Microsoft Teams.

This course will take you through written and spoken skills for communicating confidently at work.

Making Sense of Your Pay course

Starting on 2 April 2024. 4 week course, Tuesday afternoons in Houghton Regis.
This course will support you to make sense of each element on your payslip so you feel confident with calculating and tracking your income.

Helping Children with Maths: Special SATS Edition course

Starting on 12 April 2024. 5 sessions over 3 weeks, Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings in Houghton Regis.

Bitesize Maths Skills course

Starting on 16 April 2024. 6 week course, Tuesday afternoons at Dunstable Library.


This refresher course breaks down basic maths skills such as addition, multiplication, division and fractions, into bitesize learning to boost your confidence from the very beginning. Receive a £30 voucher for attending this course!* 


This course will help you to: 

  • Refresh your skills and confidence with key maths skills. 

  • Feel more aware of where you use maths in your daily life at work and home. 

  • Progress onto a formal maths qualification

Accredited Functional Skills qualifications

Functional Skills qualifications are recognised for providing you with the foundational knowledge to apply English and maths skills in work and life. You will learn essential skills that are useful in the real world, such as employment, education and everyday life. 


BESA delivers level 1 and 2 qualifications in English and maths, awarded by City & Guilds.
