Caerphilly Food & Drink Festival

Come along to the Caerphilly Food & Drink Festival.

  • Saturday 27 April 2024

Visitors can wander through the many stalls from the top of Cardiff Road to Twyn Car Park, taking in the spectacular view of the magnificent 13th Century Caerphilly Castle that is located at the heart of the event!

The town centre is transformed into a marketplace bursting with an array of culinary delights; it is a food lover’s paradise with a large number food and drink stalls to tempt visitors’ taste buds with delicious aromas and mouth-watering produce.

A programme of cookery demonstrations is planned throughout the day and the event joins forces with the established monthly markets that take place in the town centre – Caerphilly Artisan Market at Twyn Community Centre, Castle Court Shopping Centre‘s Food and Craft Market and The Cenotaph’s Craft Fair by Crafty Legs bring even more variety to the table!

​Tributes paid to former Mayor

A popular former Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough has sadly passed away after a long battle with illness.

Cllr Dianne Price, who represented the Bargoed ward since 2004, passed away surrounded by her family on 20 April.

Food waste recycling rate increases by 11%

CCBC has reported that food waste recycling tonnage has increased for the third month in a row, following the launch of their 12-month trial to provide all residents with free indoor food waste caddy liners.

Following the launch of the trial the Council has recorded a year-on-year increase to food waste recycling for three consecutive months, with an overall increase of 11% or 115.55 tonne – around the weight of a blue whale.

Estyn, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education and Training in Wales will shortly be inspecting education services in Caerphilly County Borough.

Fleur de Lis couple sentenced for illegal dog breeding and animal welfare offences

Colin and Ruth Williams of Glanddu Road, Fleur de Lis were jointly sentenced at Newport Magistrates Court for unlicensed dog breeding, Animal Welfare Act 2006 offences and failing to indicate in adverts that puppies were being advertised by a dog breeder contrary to The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s draft Waste Strategy public consultation is now live.

The Strategy sets out the strategic direction and longer-term plan to ensure that the Council meets and exceeds statutory recycling performance targets.

The public consultation offers the public the opportunity to get involved and have their say on the proposed implementation of the draft Waste Strategy.

Focus on Waunfawr Park

From the last remaining bandstand in the county borough to a gold medal winning garden your visit to Waunfawr Park will be full of unexpected surprises.

Dating from the early Edwardian era the park sits in a dramatic setting of the lower Ebbw Valley at Crosskeys overlooked by the surrounding hills.

If you run out of things to do at Waunfawr Park, then the Celtic Trail (Route 47) of the National Cycle Network runs through the park giving plenty of opportunities to cycle on towards Sirhowy Valley Country Park and even Parc Penallta.

Lives transformed through Caerphilly Keys project

A pioneering housing initiative co-ordinated by Caerphilly County Borough Council is continuing to transform lives and prevent homelessness.

The Caerphilly Keys project helps private landlords find long term tenants for their properties, whilst preventing homelessness. There are currently 41 landlords signed up to Caerphilly Keys, offering 97 properties throughout the borough.

Caerphilly CBC telecare service goes digital

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s telecare service has launched its new digital alarm receiving centre platform.

Caerphilly Careline provides a telecare service to residents in the Caerphilly borough, as well as other local authorities and housing associations in South Wales.

The system includes a base unit installed in the individual’s home which can be activated remotely by a button worn around the neck or on the wrist. Once the alarm is activated it will connect to an operator who can talk to the caller to find out what support is needed.

Cabinet support proposed changes to local schools

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet have updated Members with regards to the Sustainable Communities for Learning programme in respect of the proposal to relocate Ysgol Y Lawnt and Upper Rhymney Primary School, through the creation of sustainable school buildings with shared facilities.

Cabinet members have now reviewed and approved the recommendations made in the report, and the project will now proceed to the Planning Application stage and subsequent Welsh Government business case approvals.
